Welcome to the City of Davenport - Iowa's Front Porch!

Welcome to the City of Davenport-nationally recognized as the 2007 Most Livable Small City in the country!

Davenport, with a population of just under 100,000, is the regional beacon and hub of the metropolitan Quad-Cities, population 400,000, and the third largest city in Iowa. It is a place proud of its unique heritage at the crossroads of America. Geographically defined by the unusual path of the Mississippi River - the only place where the Mississippi runs from east to west- citizens like to say that the sun always shines on their city. Today, its rays are brighter than ever.

Recently the cities of Davenport and Rock Island, IL were recognized by the U.S. Conference of Mayors and Waste Management Inc. for their visionary and broadly participatory waterfront development plan, called RiverVision.  The two neighboring cities are working together on a revitalization and economic development program which will change their cities for generations to come.  The plan, which received unanimous support from both cities, integrates two fundamentally different approaches to floodplain management and urban design.  It is quite simply..........unprecedented, remarkable, amazing!

Today and into the future, on both sides of our nation's greatest river, Davenport and Rock Island are strongly committed to revitalization from the water's edge through our downtowns and into our historic neighborhoods.  The RiverVision initiative guides the way to this revitalization.

The water's edge is becoming our playground and showplace.  It is serving as a magnet for new population and investment.  It is instilling a heightened sense of environmental awareness by all who experience the majesty of America's River.

Davenport is experiencing its greatest revitalization in more than 80 years. It offers some of the nation's best schools; unique, friendly neighborhoods; highest quality public services and a distinguished reputation for entertainment, the arts and especially river music! Davenport, where the Mississippi celebrates, is a great place to live, work, raise a family, and visit.

Welcome!
